del.icio.us + IE

Two great tastes…

Last week, our friends over at del.icio.us announced their new Internet Explorer extension, which integrates del.icio.us right into an IE browser. The extension allows you to:

Quickly access your del.icio.us favorites, network and settings.

Save any page; add tags, a description and notes.

You’ll also be able to add notes automatically simply by highlighting text on the page, which saves mouse time. The extension runs on Windows 2000 and XP, and supports IE 5.5, 6 and 7 (betas 1 and 2).

I just downloaded the IE extension for myself. It only took a few seconds and did not (hallelujah!) require me to restart my machine, only close and reopen my browser. There’s already an extension for you cutting-edge Firefox fans.

Not familiar with del.icio.us? It’s a social networking tool that allows you to save, store and share web pages, building community around your interests. It’s a great buzz-builder for the avid blogger. For more info, visit the del.icio.us about page. And for more detail on this and other new del.icio.us releases, visit their blog.

Payment Schedule Update

What’s all the hubbub? Nothing, really, bub.

There’s been a little hubbub out there in the hubbubosphere stemming from confusion over Yahoo! Publisher Network’s pay out dates. Just to clarify, here’s how the payment cycle works:

Your revenue accrues over the course of each calendar month. On the 24th of the following month, your revenue will be transferred to your available balance. Your payment will be issued within three business days following this transfer if your available balance is at least $100.

Here’s the estimated payment schedule for the rest of the year:

Q2

July

07/25/06

August       08/25/06
September 09/26/06
Q3

October

10/25/06

November         11/28/06
December 12/27/06

If you have opted to receive payment by check—instead of direct deposit—it may take up to ten business days for mail delivery. If you have selected balance transfer as your payment method, your revenue will be made available for you to transfer funds to your Yahoo! Search Marketing advertising account.

To change your payment method from check to direct deposit, go to Payment Options under the Account Information tab.

The Only Thing Worse than being Blogged About . . .

Is not being blogged about!

The celebrated playwright and wit Oscar Wilde once quipped: “A really well-made buttonhole is the only link between Art and Nature.”

Anyone who has ever struggled with the top button on a tuxedo shirt knows that observation is not only witty, but true. It may be a doubtful proposition, but if Wilde were alive today, he might work at Yahoo! with a lot of other clever people. And if he did work here he might toss an epigram like this over his cubicle wall: “The simplest link between publisher and audience is a well placed Yahoo! Action Button.”

Quite.

You’ll find Yahoo! Action Buttons at the top of this page. They’re free, easy-to-implement, interactive social media tools for anyone who creates content on the Web.

These buttons encourage your users to:

  • Bookmark and share your content on del.icio.us
  • Send your content to their friends, partners and customers via email
  • Blog about your content through their Yahoo! 360 accounts
  • Print your content to keep and share with others, easily

Action Buttons are the quickest way for your users to spread the word about your content, products and services—far quicker than coming up with a witty epigram about it. True, people may say unkind things, but as Wilde said, “There is only one thing in the world worse than being talked about, and that is not being talked about.”

Publishers currently in the beta program can access Action Buttons through the new Publisher Services tab in the secure account interface, but publishers outside our Network are also free to use these tools. Like Yahoo! Publisher Network ads, you implement Action Buttons simply by copying and pasting the HTML code that we provide. For the java-witty (and java-adventurous), we offer several hacks that allow you to customize the buttons to fit your site’s look and feel.

Hackers and publishers interested in learning more about social media tools should check out the Social Media Tools Group on Yahoo! Groups.

Although Wilde would probably have said it more eloquently, we like to say that Yahoo! Action Buttons can turn your users into evangelists!
